Redline Capital Backs Innovium

March 21, 2017

Innovium has raised $38.3 million in Series C funding from new lead investor, Redline Capital, new strategic investors and existing investors Greylock Partners, Walden Riverwood Ventures, Capricorn Investment Group, Qualcomm Ventures and S-Cubed Capital. As part of Series C funding, Tatiana Evtushenkova, CEO/Managing Director of Redline Capital, joined Innovium’s board of directors. The new funding round brings Innovium’s total financing to $90 million and will be used to accelerate commercialization of world’s fastest TERALYNX 12.8Tbps switch silicon family and execute on a compelling roadmap. Innovium TERALYNX’s data center focused design along with patented innovations have enabled the company to leapfrog products in the market and position it as a leader in enabling autonomous & programmable large-scale data center networks.

Innovium also announced a board of advisors and investors consisting of networking industry luminaries to guide its strategy, technology and go-to-market initiatives. The members include Yuval Bachar, Principal Engineer for Global Infrastructure Architecture at LinkedIn; Sachin Katti, Professor of EE & CS at Stanford University; Martin Lund, CEO of Metaswitch; Rajeev Madhavan, serial entrepreneur and General Partner of Clear Ventures; Pradeep Sindhu, Founder and Vice Chairman of Juniper Networks; Krishna Yarlagadda, President of Imagination Technologies; and Raj Yavatkar, VMware Fellow.

“We are delighted to have Tatiana Evtushenkova join our BOD, and welcome a range of world leading entrepreneurs, executives and technologists across data center infrastructure, semiconductor and software areas to our industry board. We look forward to drawing on their collective knowledge and experience as we reshape data center networks,” said Rajiv Khemani, CEO and Co-founder of Innovium.

Economics, agility, and flexibility are rapidly driving customers to move IT to the public and private cloud. Intel predicts that 70-80% of all systems will be deployed in “large scale data centers” by 2025. In addition, applications such as 4G/5G, video, artificial intelligence (AI), machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and distributed storage are creating explosive data-center traffic growth. Network bandwidth demands inside Google’s data-centers are doubling every 12-15 months, and Amazon Web Services has highlighted that its network traffic is increasing faster than compute usage. Cisco’s Cloud Index report forecasts traffic within large scale data centers will quintuple by 2020, along with significant IPv6 adoption and need for lower latency. Data center customers are demanding solutions to these trends and requirements within strict constraints of lower Capex, Opex and increased uptimes along with future-proof, agile support for new features, protocols and I/Os.

TERALYNX: Customer-Focused Innovation

Innovium TERALYNX is the industry’s first network switch architected from the ground-up to optimally address the needs of large data centers. Other products in the market have been designed for multiple disparate segments resulting in poor trade-offs for any single segment. TERALYNX is fueled by customer-focused & patented innovations, which enable the industry’s best throughput, radix (number of ports), telemetry, buffer size, programmability and power efficiency for data centers.

TERALYNX Switch Silicon Family Highlights

  • Breakthrough TERASCALE fabric delivers industry’s highest performance, radix and buffers along with best-in-class low latency
    • 12.8Tbps, 9.6Tbps, 6.4Tbps and 3.2Tbps single chip performance options at packet sizes of 300B or smaller, delivering up to 6x advantage compared to alternatives using the widely adopted CLOS network architecture
    • Single flow performance of 400Gbps at 64B minimum packet size, 4x vs alternatives
    • 70MB of on-chip buffer for superior network quality, fewer packet drops and substantially lower latency compared to off-chip buffering options
    • Up to 128 ports of 100GbE, 64 ports of 200GbE or 32 ports of 400GbE, which enable flatter networks for lower Capex and fewer hops
    • Support for cut-through with best-in-class low latency of less than 350ns
  • Programmable, feature-rich INNOFLEX™ forwarding pipeline
    • Comprehensive layer 2/3 forwarding and flexible tunneling including MPLS
    • Large table resources with flexible allocation across L2, IPv4 and IPv6
    • Line-rate, standards-based programmability to add new/custom features and protocols
  • FLASHLIGHT™ telemetry and analytics to enable autonomous data center networks
    • Extensive visibility and telemetry capabilities such as sFlow, FlexMirroring along with highly customizable extra-wide counters
    • P4-INT in-band telemetry and extensions to dramatically simplify end to end analysis
    • Advanced analytics enable optimal resource monitoring, utilization and congestion control allowing predictive capabilities and network automation
  • Revolutionary power optimization technology
    • Design and silicon optimization provides 2x+ performance per watt vs alternatives
  • Proven, robust SERDES I/Os for existing and upcoming networks
    • Industry-leading, proven SerDes supports 10G and 25G NRZ, as well as 50G PAM4, to provide customers a variety of connectivity choices, ranging from widely deployed 10/25/40/50/100G Ethernet to upcoming 200/400GbE
    • Up to 258 lanes of long-reach SerDes, each of which can be configured dynamically
  • Integrated GHz ARM CPU core along with PCIe Gen 3 host connectivity
    • ARM core enables development of differentiated real-time automation features
    • High speed host connectivity and DMA enhancements enable high performance packet, table and telemetry data transfers while minimizing CPU overhead
    • Two high-speed Ethernet ports for management or telemetry data

“Networking silicon solutions in the market today are generic, one-size-fits-all approaches and as a result, sub-optimal for data-centers. Innovium has used a unique, singular focus on data centers to deliver the strongest set of switch capabilities that dramatically advance the future of data centers,” said Rajiv Khemani, CEO & Co-founder of Innovium. “Equally important, we have assembled one of the strongest execution teams for rapid, high-volume deployments. We are excited to be working with leading switch system and data center customers as we execute on our mission.”

Modern, Standards-based Software

Innovium offers a comprehensive software solution which includes the TERALYNX Software Development Kit (SDK), example application code, standard APIs, network operating system (NOS) software and services for seamless, accelerated deployment. The SDK delivers rich functionality along with high performance and high availability capabilities critical for data centers. It supports open APIs including OCP SAI (Switch Abstraction Interface) for easy integration with NOS software as well as APIs to unlock TERALYNX’s FLASHLIGHT analytics and automation capabilities.

Ready for Today’s Networks as well as 50G PAM4 I/O Deployments

TERALYNX enables customers to deploy switches easily with today’s 10G or 25G NRZ infrastructure for 10/25/50/100G Ethernet connectivity with up to 128 ports of 100GbE Ethernet using a single chip. This leverages the widely available infrastructure of DAC/optical cables and SFP/QSFP-based optical modules. Additionally, 50G PAM4 I/O is being urgently demanded by major data center operators to scale performance and meaningfully reduce cost per bit. TERALYNX supports PAM4 I/O to enable seamless transition without forklift upgrades. Innovium has been working closely with leading optics partners who will deliver 200/400G optical modules in QSFP56, QSFP-DD and OSFP form-factors to provide improved bandwidth and faceplate density at lower cost per bit.

TERALYNX hardware design collateral and SDK is available now for early-access customers and partners.
